Freeman, Dorothy : Dorothy A. Walters.
French Roll, 1360, 21 Edw III. The regnal year 21 Edw III probably refers to 1360, instead of 13478, because the work concerns France. Edward III first asserted his claim to the French throne in 1340, adding French regnal years to his English regnal years. Thus, the years 1340-1360 are 14-34 Edw III in English regnal years, but 1-21 Edw III in French regnal years. He renounced the French crown and later resumed his claim, so the years 1369-1377 are 43-51 Edw III in English regnal years, but 30-38 Edw III in French regnal years. [HL: 327]
