And Lillie Roggers son Henry had the middle name Roggers.³ In 2001, Lael Jordan née Walter was in posession of a small silver coin that had belonged to Samuel Elmer Walter. The coin is smaller than a nickel but a bit larger than a penny. She had been told that he always wore it around his neck on a chain. It appeared to be German and had the date '1764' on it. On one side was what looked like a coat of arms and it read 'CAR•IIID•G•HISPETIND•R'. On the other side, there are two columns with a crown in the middle . This probably indicates that he was married 4 times.⁴ He and Lillie Hattie Roggers appeared on the census of 1915 at Iola, Allen Co., KS, along with Samuel Elmer Walter.⁸ He and Lillie Hattie Roggers appeared on the census of 15 January 1920 at Iola, Allen Co., KS, along with Samuel Elmer Walter.³⁰ He died on 16 May 1926 at his home, two to three miles south on Kentucky St., Iola, KS, at age 80; of carcinoma of the duodenum and prostrate.^35,34,3 Funeral services were held at Sleeper Service room, Iola, KS, on 18 May 1926 by Rev. Jonathan C. Walter was appointed administrator. At the time of his death, Samuel Walter owned the North half of the North East Quarter of Section 11, Township 25, Range 18, Allen County, KS, occupied as a homestead and valued at $3,100. He also had $885.64 in the bank. Among his belongs were listed 1 cream seperator, 1 red cow, 1 spring wagon, 1 single buggy harness, 1 Chevrolet touring car, 7 hogs, 1 team, 53 hens, 50 young chickens, 40 bushels corn, 25 bushels oats, along with a list of farming equipment.

Out of the cash that was in the estate, Lilly paid certain debts such as the doctor and $399.50 for Samuel's funeral. There was $126.52 left, half of which went to Lilly. The balance was divided evenly between 9 heirs with $7.03 going to each of the following children: Kate Lutz, Bertha Wingenroth, Anna Felker, Sadie Mayer, Mamie Hayt, Dora Ropp, Elmer S. Walter, Henry R. Walter, and granddaughter, Wanda Walter.

The Probate Judge stated, "The Court further finds that the real estate owned by the deceased ... descends 1/2 to the widow and 1/18 to each of the children named above and 1/18 to the granddaughter named above subject to the homestead rights of the widow to occupy and use the same until the youngest child attains its majority."³⁷

This man was the father-in-law of Martin and Susan (c1853) Wolgemuth who had 2 children Harry (c1872) and Mary (c1876).¹⁷ On 30 April 1885, John Walter signed a hand-written paper that reads " Know all men by these presents that whereas by last will and tesament duly probated on the 5th day of April A.D. 1845 and recorded in the Office of the Register of Wills of York County Pa. Jacob Eicholtz after certain other devises and bequests bequethed unto his daughter Catharina married to John Walter or to her heirs or assigns all the residue of his estate. And whereas the said Catharina is deceased, leaving to survive her one child, to wit, Samuel E. Walter and her husband the said John Walter. Now for and in consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said Samuel E Walter the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said John Walter has and does hereby sell, convey, assign and set over unto the said Samuel E Walter his heirs and assigns all and every his right, title, interest, claim and demand whatsoever in and to the said residue of the estate of the said Jacob Eicoltz devised as aforesaid unto the said Catharina her heirs or assigns to demand, collect, receive and to have and to hold unto the said Samuel E. Walter his heirs and assigns for ever. In witness there of the said John Walter has hereunto set his hand and seal this 30th day of April A.D. 1885." The paper is signed "Johan. Walter" although the document is written in a different hand. It is then verified and signed by a Justice of the Peace in Lancaster County, PA.

Walter was a dressmaker (not employed 2 months of the year) in 1900 at West Earl Northern District, Lancaster Co., PA.⁷ In June 1900 Catharine L. Walter and Jacob S. Lutz were listed as having one child.⁷ Catharine L. Walter and Jacob S. Lutz appeared on the census of 6 June 1900 at West Earl Northern District, Lancaster Co., PA, along with Catharine L. Walter.⁷ She was a dressmaker on 21 January 1920 at at home, Upper Lencock Twp., PA.¹ She and Jacob S.
